Phobia Project

1. Phobia: an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something

2. Xanthophobia - fear of the color yellow or the word yellow
    Cathisophobia - fear of sitting
    Ereuthrophobia - fear of blushing
Lockiophobia - fear of child birth
Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia - fear of the number 666

3.
a) For my photo shoot I could do something with my brother because I know he has Claustrophobia. I would also use different angles to capture how he's feeling and possibly get him in a difficult situation that he doesn't like. Facial expressions will be important if I use people, but I will have to use a special lighting or angle if I use objects.

b) Claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces) - I could position my little brother in a box that he doesn't quite fit in and get him uncomfortable. A cardboard box would probably work best. The angle I would shoot at could be from the top looking down on him in the box. Another idea would be to just get his hand jutting out of the box that way you don't actually see him in the box, but you know that he's in it.

Linonophobia (fear of string) - For this fear, I could have myself or one of my friends be wrapped up entirely in string with only their eyes visible. I would have a blank background and have them look as scared as possible, expressing it with only their eyes. For a better effect, I could play around with the lighting and highlight one side of their body while leaving the other half in darkness.

Hagiophobia (fear of saints or holy things) - For this picture I could pose it in a dark room with one distinct light source. I would have someone sit in front of the light source, illuminating them the most, then hopefully there would be enough light to illuminate someone behind them. That person would hold maybe a crucifix or rosary to represent the fear. The light would clearly show the person in the front, and only a hint of the person behind them.

4. For Claustrophobia I could have natural framing to outline the person in the box. For Linonophobia I could use the rule of thirds on a blank wall, and for Hagiophobia I could use an extreme light source.

Welcome Back Assignment

2016 Favorites

This is one of my favorite pictures because I was startled when I first saw it. The size of the whale compared to the dog and the woman is stunning. It made me think about how small and insignificant we are compared to them and how they could easily swallow us if they wanted to.

This picture was another one of my favorites because it has a focal point in the center and the structures look so old. The beige colors add to the ancient feel of the whole scene and give a story to it. The collapse of it must have been devastating because it is such a massive space.

This picture is also my favorite because it shows how disappointed Obama is to have Trump as the next president. His face clearly shows his irritation and the fact that he isn't even looking at Trump while they shake hands is the real hint. Trump also doesn't look too happy to be there and it also creates the mutual mood of dislike.

Photo Prompt

1. I think the best song of 2016 was Heathens by twenty one pilots. I chose this song as the best one because twenty one pilots is a popular group that created a song for a popular movie. Even though I wasn't particularly interested in the movie, I still thought it was a deep, provoking song. The melody of the song is kind of slow and sad, and he's talking about sad things in it. He sings about being an outcast and how he can find comfort in being with other outcasts.

2. I think the best movie of 2016 was Kubo and the Two Strings. I put this movie as my first choice because it had amazing stop animation and a great plot. The scenes were filled with suspense and vengeful villains. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for little children because the meanings behind a lot of the stuff were a bit mature, but overall a wonderful movie. I was attracted to the creativity put into making the movie, and the story told of how a playful young boy can become a huge hero.

3. I chose the Zika virus outbreak as the most important news story because it made people more aware of a dangerous virus passed on by mosquitoes. It's no secret that mosquitoes have been a nuisance in the past with other viruses, but since this one has affected pregnant women negatively, more people have taken notice. The thing that attracted me to this choice was the fact that women want to do anything to help their child be born healthily and properly, so the fact that this problem was made known gives women a reason to take better precautions.

4. I decided that Hillary Clinton was the most important person of 2016. I chose her because she was the first female to receive the U.S. presidential nomination and that inspired many people. The fact that she almost won it is a big deal and in my opinion she should have. Many people were upset with the candidates because there really wasn't one that stood out. Both Clinton and Trump had questionable backgrounds and balanced each other out. Though I think Clinton would've been a better choice than Trump, I don't think America was quite ready enough to have a female president.

5. I chose Steve Harvey as the most important person in 2016 because of his well known mistake about the Miss Universe Pageant. He accidentally announced the wrong winner and had to back track on his blunder. He apologized profusely and was really sorry about the whole thing. Steve was a good sport about it though, and is not letting that one slip up ruin his announcing in the future.

Winter Break

1. One thing I will remember from my holiday is having a real conversation with my 2-year-old cousin, Vivian. The past times that I have seen her, she hasn't been able to converse very well. However, when she visited this time, she was able to understand a lot more of what I was saying.

2. My resolutions for the new year are to get in to a workout routine and eat healthier. My mom has already put the whole family on a January "food challenge" which consists of us going on a reduced carb and sugar diet.

3. In 2017 I look forward to finishing the summer with marching band again and going back in to my summer swim team routine.
