Nut Graf

A nut graf is the paragraph of a story that answers anything that wasn't answered in the intro. The nut graf creates an intro for the story and introduces what is about to be covered. The term refers to information being put "in a nutshell" to summarize a certain story or context in just a few sentences. A good nut graf answers the who, what, when, where, why, and how of a story as quickly as possible to get it out of the way.

A nut graf is important because it easily justifies the main point of the story, and it helps motivate readers to keep reading. It also helps transition a story from the intro into the main body. If not all the information is summed up in the nut graf, it will leave necessary information out and random information might be inserted in later, leaving the reader confused and off track.
